Can you spot the human figures in these pictures at first glance? New
York artist Trina Merry created these surreal images, in which models
were painted to blend in with their surrounding backgrounds.
Merry started taking body-painting pictures in 2013. Models look like
transparent ghosts against backdrops belonging to some of the most
recognizable spots in Europe and the US. It generally takes Merry eight
hours to prepare one picture, taking up to three hours to paint her
models’ bodies.
Many people who see the pictures find it hard to understand why Merry
chose to paint the naked models in public. But for Merry, body-painting
creates a “special connection” between her and the new cities she has
traveled to.
