An elderly woman escaped lynching today 2nd October 2015 Friday, after
being accused of being a bird and witch in Oleh Isoko South LGA of Delta
State.
According to residents of Iyamede street, where the purported
transformation took place, the woman was a black bird before suddenly
turning into a human being.
Hundreds of residents were said to have gathered around the woman to lynch her.
Newsmen, gathered that the woman was saw in a green white green color
“being Nigeria’s flag color”, In a river said to be 5ft deep.
An eye-witness Franca Williams told View Nigeria newsmen, “The bird
suddenly turned to an old woman of about 90s. People were shocked as
they saw the woman walking inside the river.
“When the crowd was interrogating her, she said she was a witch and that
she was coming from a burial ceremony last night at their coven with a
green white green dressed cloths when her mates left her and she
couldn’t fly any longer. The woman claimed she fell because she was
tired of flying.”
It was learnt that as the woman was about to be lynched by angry mob,
the organization that undertakes law enforcement of Oleh
Community “vigilante” leader Igbezino Uka, arrived the scene and pleaded
with the angry mobs not to take laws into their hands.
Igbezino told our correspondent that he called the Divisional Police
Officer of Oleh Police Division, CSP Mr Douglas, and he drafted anti-
robbery policemen to the scene, rescued the woman and took her to the
station.
Hundreds of bystanders were said to have followed them to the station.
However, at the station, the police found it difficult to control the crowd that had come to see the alleged witch.
News had it that the DPO had to call for reinforcement from Ozoro
divisions before he could handle the crowd as some people were bent on
lynching the woman.
