Odinga was forced to intervene and restore order during a rally in Homa Bay County before things became calm again.
Standard reported that
chaos erupted when supporters of area governor Cyprian Awiti and
Kasipul-Kabondo MP Oyugi Magwanga’s clashed at a local stadium on Sunday
after supporters of the two leaders attempted to reach the main dais at
Homa Bay Stadium.
While Awiti’s supporters chanted slogans in support of his re-election,
those of Magwanga, who has declared his interest in the governor’s seat
said he must be voted out next year. And when push came to shove, a
shouting match ensued before it turned physical.
The matter was compounded further when Homa Bay Governor, Cyprian Awiti
and Kasipul-Kabondo MP Oyugi Magwanga started a wrestling match as
Odinga watched in shock. He was forced to interrupt the disgraceful act
and call the men to order.
However, supporters of the fighting leaders hurled stones at them
forcing Kisumu Governor Jack Ranguma and Homa Bay Woman Representative
Gladys Wanga to run for safety.
Fighting had started before Odinga arrived and when he made his way to
the Homa Bay stadium accompanied by Mombasa Governor, Hassan Joho, they
didn’t stop and continued to wrestle on the podium, the Standard
