He was admitted to The Corporate Hospital in Gurdaspur, India, a few
days ago with complaints of abdomen pain and weakness.
The father of two underwent a successful five-hour operation to remove the knives from his stomach in the northern city of Amritsar, after complaining to doctors of severe abdomen pain.
“I don’t know why I did it but there was some spiritual power behind it,” the 42-year-old said from Amritsar in Punjab state, declining to be named.
“It started in June when I swallowed the first knife and I enjoyed the feeling. It soon became a habit.”
A team of surgeons were astonished when they discovered he had swallowed not one, not two, but 40 knives over the last two months because he liked the way they tasted.
One of the five surgeons on hand, Dr Jitinder Malhotra, branded it as the most dreadful surgery he had seen in the last 20 years of practicing.
He said: ‘When we began diagnosis, we found the cause of the pain puzzling. We did an ultrasound, which revealed some solid mass in his stomach, shaped like cancer.
After a gruesome five hours of surgery with lots of bleeding, Jarnail was somehow successfully treated and will be discharged from hospital in the upcoming days.
